Harry Sparnaay’s book “The Bass Clarinet” is a masterpiece

Harry Sparnaay’s book “The Bass Clarinet” is a masterpiece of information and inspiration, written with a great amount of personality and wit by the man who put the bass clarinet on the map as a solo instrument in modern classical music.
For me, being primarily a Jazz bass clarinet player, it offers a comprehensive and in-depth overview across a wide variety of bass clarinet related topics as well as a brilliant insight into the workings of the performer – composer relationship and its effect on each other.
The detailed and expansive chapter on special/extended techniques, as well as the repertoire studies demonstrate the very diverse possibilities of the “modern” bass clarinet in musical and technical terms, and serve as an inspiration to me to keep exploring and reaching higher in the quest of understanding and utilizing the bass clarinet to its fullest!
It is a beautiful one-of-a-kind book packed to the brim with information and personal stories and anecdotes, which will stand as a premier resource for all things bass clarinet for a long time.
Bravo!
